Frequently asked questions.

What is a Lutheran Neighborhood School?

A Lutheran Neighborhood School is an intentionally small school built around the ideas of faith development, student responsibility, growth, and innovative teaching practices.

What will students learn at a Lutheran Neighborhood School?

Students will learn responsibility, social skills, self-motivation, critical thinking, and learn how to learn.  We do all that while meeting the state standards.

Why are Lutheran Neighborhood Schools smaller than “traditional” schools?

A Lutheran Neighborhood School has enrollment capped at 50 students because we believe students learn better in a smaller environment.  We feel 50 is a just right size to get the best results from our program.

What is the tuition cost at a Lutheran Neighborhood School?

An education at a Lutheran Neighborhood School is a lifelong investment that returns much more than the cost of tuition.  Please contact us to discuss the specifics.  We do also participate in the school voucher programs.

What grades does a Lutheran Neighborhood School offer?

We don’t put students in a traditional graded class as each student is on their own unique academic track based on their prior knowledge, interests, and learning pace.  If a student can read independently and is self-motivated, they would be a good fit for our program.  Each enrollment decision is unique.  Contact us to discuss how that would specifically apply to your child.

Is a Lutheran Neighborhood School the best place for my child?

At Lutheran Neighborhood Schools we believe that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher, and you know your child better than anyone.  Any student that is willing to put in the work needed to succeed, that is willing to take direction, and that has a dedicated support network at home would be able to be successful in our schools.

What is required of parents at Lutheran Neighborhood Schools?

We expect parents to be incredibly involved in their child’s learning.  Parents are expected to help with homework, volunteer at school functions, attend worship with their child weekly, support the educational program, and do anything else that is needed to grow their child into a hardworking, kind, faithful, and successful student and person.

What makes a Lutheran Neighborhood School different from a traditional school?

We believe that the traditional school model doesn’t work for everyone when it comes to four key areas: faith development, class size, learning pacing, and the development of life skills. We are intricately linked with our host churches and intentionally teach our students the value of service to God and to others.  Our mixed ability classes are kept to 10 or fewer students.  We equip students to learn at their most successful pace unique to them.  We teach our students manners, grit, and interpersonal skills.

Is hot lunch offered at a Lutheran Neighborhood School?

We do not offer hot lunch at our schools.  We believe in connecting families in need with resources that they can use year-round to address food insecurity or other issues.  We want to empower the community by using resources and groups that are already established and that specialize in those areas.

What is the dress code at a Lutheran Neighborhood School?

School is a place for instruction and learning. We dress for the occasion, in this case, school. The dress code is designed to honor biblical modesty and protect the school environment from distractions.  All clothing must be neat, clean, and in good repair, and must not detract from the Christian atmosphere of the school.
